The process of making bandhani dupattas is quite complex. The fabric is first dyed in a base color, and then it is tied into small knots. The knots are then covered in a resist dye, and the fabric is dipped into a second dye bath. The resist dye prevents the second dye from coloring the fabric where the knots are tied, so when the knots are untied, the fabric reveals a beautiful pattern of multicolored dots.
